NUSS LAUNCHES NATIONAL STUDENTS NEWSLETTER

The National Union of Sierra Leone Students has on Friday 8th February 2024 launched the National Students Newsletter at the Milton Margai Technical University ,Great Hall Goderich.

This initiative is geared towards amplifying the voices, concerns, aspirations, and contributions of students towards national development.

From his part, the president of NUSS, Mohamed Rex Bhonapha, stated that the contribution of student leaders is mostly limited to their respective campus groups, and as such provides for a minimal space for students to voice out their concerns on academic and national issues.

He maintained that the said initiative provides for students to access, to read, comment on vital information and share stories with the Union subject to screening for publication.

He ascertained further on the difficulty to have a newspaper as it’s difficult to get the inputs of every student, or to get feedbacks from them more especially those residing in the provinces and thus an establishment of this secured website would suffice as 95% of students use android phones and thus have the space to read and contribute on issues from their respective homes.

The Vice Chancellor and Principal of MMTU, Professor Kanu, commended the president and the Union for such a brilliant initiative as he explains the successes of Milton Margai Technical University and what they are anticipating in the next academic year.

As the guest speaker, the Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Ramatulai Wurie stated that the initiative is in line with the government’s vision to transform the educational system of this country to a modern system of learning where registration of students, application for international scholarships, Loan Scheme among others are done online.

The launching in which several contributions were made climaxed with an admonishment from the Minister of Technical and Higher Education for students to make adequate use of this opportunity to get information, and to showcase their developments and contributions to national development as she assured students of her support to the initiative and her continues support to the union.
